OPEN DOORS AT MIES VAN DER ROHE PAVILION
05 JuneWithin the framework of Barcelona Design Week 2022 and as every first Sunday of the month, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe opens the doors of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion to give architects, interior designers, designers, and all those who love design, the opportunity to get to know one of the key pieces of modern architecture.
The Barcelona Pavilion was designed by Ludwig Mies van de Rohe and Lilly Reich as Germany’s national pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. It was designed to host the official reception presided over by King Alfonso XIII with the German authorities.
The building was dismantled in 1930 and became a key reference point both for Mies van der Rohe’s career and 20th century architecture. The significance and recognition of the Pavilion led to its reconstruction, promoted by Oriol Bohigas. The new building was inaugurated in 1986 in its original location.
You will be able to enjoy this symbolic work of the Modern Movement, the particularity of its structure and design, such as the designs of the Barcelona Chair and the Sculpture by George Kolbe on Sunday 5 June from 10 am to 8 pm.
