Opening conference by Daan Roosegaarde

07 June

We are happy to start Barcelona Design Week PRO (7-17 June) with a very special opening conference by Daan Roosegaarde, founder of Studio Roosegaarde in Rotterdam (The Netherlands).

Under the title “Landscapes of the Future”, Daan Roosegaarde will present his innovative practice which merges people, technology and space to create a future-proof world.

Roosegaarde pulls technology out of the screens to explore the social role of design in our world, and activate solutions to improve life in urban environments. As an innovative thought leader, Roosegaarde shows the importance of “Schoonheid” (a Dutch word meaning both beauty and cleanliness) as our new value, along with his vision for a better future.

Daan Roosegaarde graduated from The Berlage Institute with a Master in Architecture. He is a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum, a visiting professor at several universities, was selected by Forbes and Good 100 as a creative change maker and named Artist of the Year 2016 in The Netherlands.

Roosegaarde is a creative thinker and maker of social designs which explore the relation between people, technology and space. His fascination for nature and technology is reflected in his iconic designs such as Waterlicht (a virtual flood) and Smog Free Project (the largest outdoor air purifier in the world which makes jewellery from smog) and Space Waste Lab (the mission to upcycle junk that floats in space).

Studio Roosegaarde is a social design lab. They have created projects like GROW, an inspiring project of artistic agriculture that participated at World Economic Forum in Davos, or URBAN SUN, inspired by the solar light to clean up to 99,9% of covid-19, thanks to scientific investigations at the University of Columbia and the University of Hiroshima.

This session will be in English. You will be able to attend it live-stream exclusively on 7 June. It will not be uploaded on our channels later.

This conference is organized by Barcelona centre de Disseny with the collaboration of Dutch Design Week.
