FAD Forum: «The Gender of Design»

23 November

Spaces, products, identities, campaigns, services… none of the things we design are neutral from the viewpoint of gender. Because design and architecture are a key cultural practice in the construction of sociocultural patterns.

At the FAD Forum on «The Gender of Design» we set out to explore how gender projections have had and continue to have an impact on design processes, on the uses and interpretations of objects and social spaces. A session in which we will ask ourselves how we should be designing today, based on the demands and transformations in gender rights. We will analyze how the gender of design was, and is, focusing on projects as the place for building and reproducing gender relations.

Talks, debates and other interventions, in which national and international creators take centre stage, configure a multidisciplinary programme that will tackle this topic from different perspectives: the conceptual approach taken by social sciences and the theory of design; the professional practice with the discovery of the motivations behind gender projections in the design of products and services; research into and promotion of gender equality in creative environments; managing gender perspective within creative tandems; among others.
