16 June to 30 June

Wayfindings: The experience is the central space of this edition of the BDW that will include a set of activities in the Jardinets de Gràcia, the epicenter of Barcelona, where design will be shown, made visible and brought closer to the citizen, so that they can enjoy this experience and understand that design is a service to society. Understand how the smallest acts can have a global impact. To reflect that to design is to do it in an intelligent, thoughtful, hopeful and responsible way, remembering that everyone can be an agent of change in the face of great challenges and the necessary transformations in society, considering political, economic, scientific, technological, cultural and environmental. It is a call to exchange points of view, to mix new talent, to explore other ways of doing, seeing and thinking.

This activity is curated by In Wayfindings: The experience you can actively participate in the following activities:

On the 16th, 17th and 18th at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., you will find the live essence of performative cubes. Design schools in Barcelona have been invited to participate to carry out actions and performances, carried out in situ inside a cube, where they will explore and teach how design helps us guide our actions. A face-to-face action in real time to interact directly with citizens, demonstrating how the new generations live our current reality.

With the participation of: EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona; Elisava Escola Universitària de Disseny i Enginyeria de Barcelona; IED Barcelona Escola Superior de Disseny; LCI Barcelona, Escola Superior de Disseny de Barcelona; La Salle Arquitectura i LABASAD Barcelona School of Art & Design.

The Hibernacle of Ideas

From June 16 to 18, every afternoon at 7:00 p.m., the artist Jordi Enrich will set up and inflate his wind igloo in front of the attendees. An ephemeral space made from a recycled hot air balloon sail, which we have called the greenhouse of ideas. Inside the hibernacle the Findings will be held, debates/colloquia with personalities from various disciplines: from designers, illustrators and influencers, to scientists, psychologists or philosophers; to exchange knowledge about Wayfindings. These will be the sessions:

Finding on Thursday, June 16, 7:00 p.m.: Wayfindings: The essentials

We will reflect on the body as a language, the body as an essential, individual element, but also as a communicative and artistic element. We will treat the body as a common thread through society and an active part in design. The session will be moderated by Ramon Faura, musician and architect, and Iñaki Mur, actor and communicator, Òscar Doll, product designer of Kave Home, and Amanda Rodríguez, psychiatrist, will participate as speakers.

Finding on Friday, June 17, 7:00 p.m.: Wayfindings: Dialogue

We will talk about language and technology, speech and communication. The new way of living will be shown, where technology and networks have challenged the way we communicate, in a sense of humor, in mass communication. The massive exposure of our personal lives and living parallel realities will be discussed, and how people have adapted to new social realities from new territories with the generation of new dialogues. The session is moderated by Francesca Tur, communicator and creative, and Lídia Vives, photographer, Putos Modernos, designers, and Raquel Gil, director of the Roca Galleries, participate as speakers.

Finding on Saturday June 18, 7:00 p.m.: Wayfindings: Navigate

We will talk about the new ways of living, about sailing and having no direction. We will reflect on the present and future, we will plan on the different existing territories and we will see how to face the online world, the new unknown routes and the new social and psychological challenges. Finally, we will explore what position design occupies in this entire framework. The session is moderated by Laura Benítez, doctor of philosophy and connector of philosophy, art and technoscience and the speakers are Martí Melcion, illustrator; Playmodes, sound and light designers and engineers, and Salvi Plaja, design director of the Simon company.

Exhibition micro-experiences

From June 16 to 30 you can enjoy an interactive experience designed by the Barcelona studio The Others with the collaboration of Maria Corte, David Torrents, Wete Studio and Marina Salazar. A tour made up of 5 cubes, where you can explore with augmented reality the concepts of Wayfindings that invite you to reflect on the semiotics of design and human nature, and how we design new paths to explore.

CANVAS an artistic intervention

The Escofet company transforms cities and enhances the use of public space through the design and industrialization of urban elements and architectural concrete.

On this occasion, Escofet will place two pieces of furniture from its catalog at the service of art: the emblematic Lungo Mare and the novelty Petra. These pieces follow organic shapes inspired by nature within the city, becoming meeting, game and meeting points for the people who inhabit it. The pieces provided will be a blank canvas for the renowned mural artist Anna Taratiel, who will execute a pictorial work in situ, evoking internal landscapes and reflections on the environment. The objective of the CANVAS intervention is to explore new paths and propose new uses for users, turning the resulting work into an interactive and sensory installation, where the connection of apparently opposite concepts, art and design, matter and abstraction, can transport us to a context free interpretation. On June 16 from 5:30 p.m. you will be able to see Anna Taratiel’s intervention live. The installation can be visited until June 30.

Discover design: Print realities with HP

Hand in hand with HP, we present the cube “The infinite bag” where an interactive experience will be offered with the aim of making visible the role of design in our society and the number of designed objects that surround us. The participants of the experience, pedestrians, visitors and citizens, will be able to photograph or scan the “designed” objects they carry and print a poster with what defines them as individuals. The impressions will become part of the cube. In this way, a collaborative piece of art will be achieved, where the people of Barcelona will be the main authors.
